The youthspace
What is the youth space?
The Youth space is a hangout zone in the main street of Corryong (located @42 Hanson Street) available for 12–25-year-olds. It has free Wi-Fi, art supplies, streaming services, video games, 2 x TV's, Consoles including a Nintendo switch & PS4, board games, pool table, air hockey, table tennis, karaoke, a dance mat, kitchen & bathroom facilities, a sound booth, a community garden and more!
All users need to be responsible for their own behavior, as bullying and other displays of immaturity will not be tolerated. Respect the space and each other by tidying all mess, and ensure nothing is left for someone else to clean!
🧡The youth space relies on trust and respect; therefore, it is up to every individual to behave maturely, and responsibly. 🧡
PLEASE put rubbish in the bin, and clean any messes! When you've finished with the space, it is also expected that TV's, air-conditioning, and game consoles will all be turned off, as well as the back door being shut & locked.
If these expectations are too high, it could be a sign that you are not ready to independently use the youth space, and may only be allowed to in future with a youth worker present (Let's work together so this doesn't have to be the case).

how it started
The youth space was created from an obsolete computer lab in 2013 with small philanthropic grants from Helen MacPherson Smith and Ross Trusts.
It was used by young people as a hang out, activity and gaming space for 10 years with only small improvements as and when they were needed and affordable and was in desperate need of a facelift. Use of the space was also increasing - especially following the bushfires. After consulting with local youth on what they thought was needed, we successfully applied for a Black Summer Grant to completely renovate and re-equip the space. While the slow process of obtaining federal grant funds played out, we received additional funds from Border Trust to get the renovations started.
As we approach the end of 2024, the Room to Recover project is now complete. We are both relieved and excited to show off our shiny, new Youth Space. We hope this space will continue to be loved and utilized by the youth in our community for many years to come.
